Neighborhood Guide: Chelsea/Flatiron

CHELSEA/FLATIRON: In the mid-1800’s, this area served as the manufacturing base for companies taking advantage of the piers along the Hudson River and the railroad tracks that were laid between 10th and 11th Avenues. Now, Chelsea is known as the center of the art world. There are over 200 galleries in the neighborhood. The railroad tracks have been transformed into the much-celebrated High Line, and along the Hudson is the Chelsea Piers sports complex. Tech companies have moved into the neighborhood. Both Google and WeWork have large corporate offices there.

Chelsea/Flatiron has arrived as Manhattan’s hippest destination for nightlife, fashion, art, design, fine dining, progressive culture and revolutionary performance venues. This neighborhood is defined by its iconic Flatiron Building.
