Neighborhood Guide: Greenwich Village

GREENWICH VILLAGE: Often referred to as simply “the Village”, is a vibrant small business community located in Lower Manhattan. The Village is bordered by The East River to the east, the Hudson River to the west, Houston Street to the south, and 14th Street to the north. The areas surrounding it are NoHo, SoHo and Chelsea. The western part of Greenwich Village is known as the West Village. The Village is known as an important landmark for American bohemian culture. This tradition of avant-garde and alternative culture was established during the 19th century and grew in the 20th century, when small presses, art galleries, and experimental theater thrived in the Greenwich Village small business community. That tradition continues today with the diverse and exciting range of food and lifestyle stores, bars, and restaurants as well as creative office users looking for unconventional workspace.
