Neighborhood Guide: Murray Hill

MURRAY HILL: The Murray Hill neighborhood is located in Midtown East Manhattan, and the boundaries are defined as East 34th Street to the south, East 40th Street to the north, Madison Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Murray Hill derives its name from the Murray family, 18th-century Quaker merchants, who worked in the shipping and overseas trade industries.

The area is a prime business and commerce hub and for many commuters, the proximity to Grand Central Station is especially convenient. Home to many small retail businesses, including bar/restaurants, frozen yogurt shops, and sushi bars, Murray Hill is also home to the iconic Empire State Building which has approximately 2 million square feet of commercial space.
